CAD
generated designs are definitely not the be all an end all of Jewellery
manufacturing. Due to certain inherent characteristics of CAD
generated castings, such as they are not as dense or resilient to
damage as hand-wrought work, and that they generally appear clinical,
sterile soul-less in their execution, we do not recommend CAD except
where it is ideally applicable. Lighter CAD designs can tend to age
quickly and bend readily, unless specialised hardened alloys are used,
which in turn can present problems later with sizing, repairs and
such. CAD designed and executed rings popularised through chain stores
have become a headache for repairers, to the extent that many now
refuse to work on them, so be very careful to consult with a competent
jeweller as to the best options when choosing the method of manufacture
for your jewellery.
